Justin Bieber Gives Young Cancer Patient Early Valentine’s Day
all it the power of social media—or just maybe the power of Cupid—but Justin Bieber recently made a young fan’s dream come true with an early Valentine's Day gift of a lifetime, reports MSNBC. After seeing alocal news report about 6-year-old Avalanna Routh, who is battling a very rare and deadly form of cancer (typically just 20-30 cases of atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, or AT/RT, in the U.S. each year), Bieber flew Avalanna and her family to New York, where she got to spend yesterday afternoon with him.
Avalanna, who has undergone brain surgery, countless other surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and a stem cell transplant, remains in treatment. Last year, courtesy of the Jimmy Fund, she had a pretend wedding to (a cardboard cut-out of) the teen idol. In addition to the local news story (which Beiber tweeted about), supporters of Avalanna (who came to be known as Mrs. Bieber) also worked to get the word out about Avalanna’s dream of meeting the pop star via a Facebook page, Get Avalanna to Meet Justin Bieber. Despite being a mere six years old, Avalanna said that she had already loved the pop star for “Seven years. No—80 years.”
During their visit together, the pair played board games, exchanged autographs and Bieber even allowed Avalanna to style his famous ‘do. Bieber later tweeted, “that was one of the best things i have ever done. she was AWESOME! Feeling really inspired now! #MrsBieber.”
